Registration and Payment
You may register by phone, mail or e-mail. A one-time, non-refundable, per-person $50 or per-family $75 registration fee is required to register. Tuition for classes, workshops, and lessons are due on the first day of each session. In the unfortunate event of a check being returned for insufficient funds, you will be charged an additional $15 administrative fee.
You may participate in Kutandara Center programs after your registration form has been completed and signed and full payment of tuition has been received. Hooray!
Withdrawals
Withdrawals must be done in writing in the office during normal business hours by completing a withdrawal form. Your $50 individual registration fee (new students), $75 family registration (new families) or $50 deposit (returning students) is non refundable. If you withdraw from a class during the first week of the session, you will receive a refund in the amount of your tuition less any registration fees and deposits. Refunds are given only in the form that payment was made. Credit card refunds must be done in person in the office with the card on which payment was originally charged.
If you withdraw from a class after normal business hours on Friday of the first week of the session or later, no refunds will be given for any reason. Because you have reserved a space in a group for which we have a limited number of spots available, our non refundable policy applies in every instance.
Cancelled Classes and Lessons
In the event of insufficient enrollment, classes or workshops may be cancelled no less than seven days prior to the scheduled start date. In this situation, you will be notified in writing and all fees paid will be refunded in full.
On occasion, an instructor may have to miss a class or lesson. In this situation, a suitable substitute instructor will be provided for you or you will be given notice of class cancellation using e-mail addresses or phone numbers provided to Kutandara Center. In the event of cancellation, the instructor will schedule an alternate day and time to make up the class during the session.
If Boulder Valley School District schools are closed due to bad weather, Kutandara Center will also be closed for the day. If possible, Kutandara Center staff will attempt to reach all affected students by email. Cancellation of classes due to closure for bad weather will not result in make-up classes being held.
Student Absences and Lesson Cancellations
If you know that you will miss a class, please let us know! It makes a difference when even just one student is absent. We can better plan for your absence if we know in advance. Thanks!
If you miss a marimba class, you may make up that class during the same session by participating in another Kutandara Center marimba class at no charge to you (with the approval of both your instructor and the instructor of the make-up class). Although marimba classes are working on different material, there is enough overlap in material and ability that attending a different class for a make-up may be beneficial to you. If you are unsure of which class to attend for a make-up, please ask your instructor.
You may also schedule and pay for a private lesson to cover missed material. There is no refund or pro-rating for missed classes during a session.
Kutandara Center has a 24-hour cancellation policy for private lessons. You will be billed for lessons cancelled less than 24 hours in advance of lesson time except in the event of illness or family emergency.
Communication
We rely on the phone numbers and email addresses you give us to contact you throughout the session. Please make sure we have your correct information. If you provide us with accurate contact information each session, we will ensure that you receive notification of class cancellations, student concert information and other Kutandara Center news.
Privacy
As a Kutandara Center student, you will have an opportunity to perform with your class at Kutandara Center sharing and other events. During both instruction and performances, you may be photographed or recorded for Kutandara Center instructional, archival or advertising uses.
At the beginning of each session, we provide a contact list of student names, phone numbers and email addresses to members of your class to be used for Kutandara Center purposes (carpooling, missed lesson information, community building, etc.). We will not distribute your information to anyone outside of your class.
Behavior
A socially acceptable standard of behavior is expected from even our youngest students. All students should be able to take direction, stay on task, and respect the instructions of staff and teachers. Inappropriate behavior may result in dismissal with no refund at the sole discretion of Kutandara Center directors.
Lost and Found
Items left at Kutandara Center will be placed in a lost-and-found near the entry door. At the end of each session any remaining items will be donated to charity. Please take your belongings home with you!
Student Materials
Adult students receive a notebook of Kutandara Center information and an expandable music section that can grow with you as you continue your music making at Kutandara Center. Youth students receive a packet of Kutandara Center information for parents to review at home.
Open Studio Time
Studio time is an opportunity for students to practice between classes, to get together with classmates to play together and to share parts and songs with other Kutandara Center students. Studio time is available by sign-up on a first-come, first-served basis for currently enrolled Kutandara Center students (Children 12 and under must be accompanied by an adult). Open studio times should be used to practice material that you are working on in classes or other approved material. If you have signed up for a time that you do not intend to use, please cross your name off so that others may make use of the space.
Kutandara Center instructors may use the studios during any open studio time, whether or not they have signed up. Instructors will make every effort to sign up for times that they need for lessons, personal practice, or class preparation in advance. If you are signed up for a time that an instructor needs, they will make every effort to notify you.
Rental Instruments
Rental instruments are available from Kutandara Center on a first-come, first-served basis, as well. Please inquire about rates and availability.
Student Library
Kutandara Center maintains an audio and print library for its students. Please feel free to check out these items during the session in which you are enrolled. Items are due two weeks after you check them out and must be returned by the end of each session for library inventory.
Student Sharing
At the end of each session, Kutandara Center hosts a student sharing in which all current students are invited (and encouraged!) to play with their class. The student sharing is a time for friends and family to share in the music you have been working on during the session. The location and date of the sharing varies from session to session and is announced each term.
Community Concerts
Each session, Kutandara Center hosts several community concerts so that more students can perform for each other, their families and Kutandara Center students. Community concerts are also an opportunity to donate to charities, as each community concert has a charitable theme to benefit those who have taught us, those who need our help and those about whom we care deeply. The location and date of the concerts vary from session to session and are announced each term.
Student Jam Sessions
Each session, Kutandara Center hosts a jam session for its adult students. Jam sessions are scheduled on weekend nights and are arranged according to class level. They serve as mixers to meet other Kutandara Center students, to encourage students to share parts, and to play songs and parts students may not have the opportunity to play during class time. More advanced students facilitate jam sessions for less advanced students.

Flexible Payment Options
During the first week of a session you pay your session balance in full with a single check, credit card transaction or a series of post-dated checks. You do not have to hassle with remembering to pay monthly fees or wonder if your balance is paid in full. You have more important things to think about!
Opportunities for Growth
Many of our students stay with us for many years and grow through our programs. We offer classes for all ages and levels of ability. In general, you will start in our introductory classes and progress with your class through our skill and song levels. At various points in this process, there will be opportunities for additional growth. We offer several different levels of performing ensembles, different instructors with different strengths and experience and opportunities to give back to those less fortunate than ourselves.
If you have questions about your growth at Kutandara Center, please discuss them with your instructor.

I really appreciate that Kutandara Center offers open studio time as a way for us to practice between classes. It is so generous!.
