Kutandara Center Student Performance Class is for students interested in learning more about performing in an ensemble. This class was created for Kutandara Center students wanting to improve their musical skills by playing in front of audiences. The ensemble class provides an opportunity for students to challenge themselves by “going to the next level” of playing and performing Zimbabwean-style music. The goal of the ensemble class is to provide additional learning opportunities through practice and performance for the more serious Kutandara Center student. The student, upon entering the ensemble class, must be concurrently enrolled in a regular class offered by Kutandara Center.
The Student Performance Class allows open enrollment by students ages 12 and up who have taken at least four sessions of classes and have been approved by Kutandara Center directors (on a space-available basis). New sections of the Student Performance Class are opened periodically according to demand.
The current Student Performance Class is called “Shungu” which means “aspiration.”
Current Shungu members include Dan Ely, Alex Goulder, Marijke Jones, Diane Michel, Bart Miller, Robyn Morgan, Cory Potash, Lisa Seaman, and Hilary Skellon.
