Parents!
Are you looking for something unique for your child to do this summer? Our enriching music and arts curriculum is that and more! When children study music and the arts, their reading, spelling, and math skills improve. Did you know that children who participate in a music group are 52 percent more likely to go on to college and graduate? It is true ~ and it can be fun!
- Now in our 8th year
- Master instructors from Zimbabwe and the US
- First Aid and CPR certified staff
This is summer camp with a twist! Kamp Kutandara is a unique cross cultural program that gives children an in-depth opportunity to explore a wide range of music, dance and art from Africa in a day camp setting. Kids play by ear and build their musical confidence on all levels. If your kids are already doing music, this is the perfect match. If your kids haven’t yet had success with conventional music - you'll love this! No prior musical experience necessary.

What to Bring to Kamp Kutandara
Each day your child will take part in exciting classes. While most classes take place inside, some classes take place outside under a 10’ x 10’ shaded canopy. Lunch takes place outside, as well, in the large, grassy area near the church’s entrance. Please dress your child so that they will be comfortable in heat/cold, sun/rain, and all other unpredictable types of Colorado weather. We recommend applying sunscreen on your child’s exposed skin before arriving each morning.
Dance classes require freedom of movement and we recommend that your child wear clothing that they feel comfortable moving in and getting sweaty. Likewise, arts and crafts classes sometimes are messy! On occasion, we will use art supplies that are permanent and non-washable, so please pack an old, large shirt to use as a smock or wear clothing that can be stained.
Please send your child with a bottle of water to have with him/her during kamp. Water bottles need to have closing mechanisms that children can close themselves to prevent spills near or on instruments. Please also send your child to Kamp Kutandara with a healthy, energy-packed, non-perishable snack/lunch. Please make sure that your child knows that we do not share food with other children at Kamp Kutandara.
As kampers move from classroom to classroom throughout the building each day with their counselors, they carry all their belongings with them. Please select a backpack or bag that is comfortable for your child to carry with them and can accommodate:
- Water bottle filled with water
- Non-perishable snack/lunch
- Sweatshirt or fleece jacket
- Rain jacket or windbreaker
- Sweatpants or windpants
- Hat, sunglasses and extra sunscreen
- Arts and crafts smock
Please refrain from sending toys, games, electronic devices or other personal items. If you require your child to carry a cell phone, please make sure that it is on vibrate or silent and that your child understands it is not to be removed from his/her backpack at any point during kamp.
